Our Sheep

happy, healthy sheep.

We raise grass-fed Icelandic sheep in family groups, on healthy pastures. Our sheep graze rotationally on fresh pasture from April-November. In the Pacific Northwest, heavy rains, clay soils, and mild temperatures mean that keeping livestock on pastures in the winter months would result in severe soil compaction, pasture plant damage, and muddy, unsanitary conditions. To keep our pastures productive and our sheep healthy, our flock enjoys an airy barn and large, dry outdoor area during the winter months.

We chose Icelandic sheep because of their versatile and independent nature (it doesn’t hurt that they’re gorgeous and full of personality). Icelandics produce fine-grained, deliciously mild meat, and their wool is rugged yet light — and uniquely suited to cold and wet conditions. Icelandics thrive on a grain-free, all-pasture diet, and they enjoy eating brush and other rough forages.

We spend time building trusting relationships with our sheep, and use low-stress livestock handling techniques to keep our flock happy and healthy.
